Anand - Carlsen, World Chess Championship 2013, Game 6
Game collection after 9...d6
Comments on some of the moves in game 6:
1.e4
Magnus Carlsen hasn't had any problems at all with black in the two previous games where Viswanathan Anand has opened with 1.e4. Anand gives 1.e4 a last (?) chance to succeed before switching to 1.d4 (?).
4.d3
Should give white a bigger hope to succeed than the line 4.0-0 Nxe4 5.d4 Nd6 6.Bxc6 dxc6 7.dxe5 Nf5 8.Qxd8+ Kxd8.
11.Nbd2
Chess engine Houdini's first choice is 11.Bxe6 fxe6 12.b4 Ba7 13.a4, showing the line 13...h6 14.Bxf6 Qxf6 15.axb5 axb5 16.Na3 Rab8 17.Qe2 Rf8 18.Ra2 d5 19.Rea1 d4 20.c4 Nxb4 21.Rb2 bxc4 22.Nxc4 Nc6 23.Ra6 Bb6 24.Nxb6 cxb6 25.Rbxb6 Rxb6 26.Rxb6.
60.Ra4
The losing move. White can still hold a draw with 60.b4. Houdini gives: 60...h3
61.gxh3 Rg6 62.Rc7 f3 63.Re7+ Kd3 64.b5 Rg2+ 65.Kh1 Rb2 66.Kg1 Kxc3
67.b6 Rxb6 68.Kf2 Rf6 69.Re3+ Kd4 70.Rxf3 and we have an equal position.

About me
- Torbjörn Björklund
- I played my first chess game in December 1977 and was lucky to hold draw. I continued to play chess and joined a chess club in September 1978. I'm still enjoying playing chess. I like to do many other things than playing chess. Long walks, some jogging, cycling, reading books, listen to music, watch movies, writing and much more. Life is fun!
